Description

Xiloca Calatayud Garnacha

Xiloca Calatayud Garnacha – the work begun by Vinae Murari along the upper stretches of the JilocaRiver has been inherited through acquisition by Bodegas Sommos Garnacha. The tastefully designed, isolated bodega in Murero is retained, along with 250 acres of indigenous Garnacha vines between 40 and 100 years old. Updated technology and attention to detail have produced immediate and spectacular results.

From the highlands that overlook Calatayud, with vineyard elevations between 2600 and 4000 ft. The vineyards of predominantly exposed blue and black slate are farmed using sustainable organic methods.

Fruit for the Xiloca bottling is sourced from the estate’s lower elevation pagos along the Jiloca river where a higher percentage of red clay accentuates a ripe fruit profile in the wine. Fermented and bottled from stainless steel tanks.

CorkQueen

A good Spanish wine made from Garnacha. It is typical in its fruit-forward flavor. Fermented in stainless steel allows the fruit to be pronounced instead of being overshadowed by oak. Definitely a bargain for an everyday drinker.

Bodega SOMMOS

An Avant-guard winery at the heart of Somontano.

SOMMOS, an Avant-guard winery at the heart of the Somontano region. Geometric play transforms the intertwining cubes of Sommos into a prism for architecture that is internationally renowned in the press as “one of the architectural wonders of the winemaking world”. This is where we pursue knowledge and the aspiration to be much more than just a wine-producing facility.

Fruit for the Xiloca bottling is sourced from the estate’s lower elevation along the Jiloca river where a higher percentage of red clay accentuates a ripe fruit profile in the wine. Fermented and bottled from stainless steel tanks.

Tasting

The intense blackberry color and aroma are captivating. Freshness and integrated tannins invite a second sip. The intensity continues in a mouth-filling palate and a lingering fruit/mineral finish.
